FREE camp

The FREE Camp was estabilished in 2005 by the Cultural Center of Harghita County, which is subordinated to the Harghita County Council.Since then it has become one of the most important cultural events in the region with national and international professional recognition.

This international camp of the fine arts is of typically urban character, located in middle of the town surrounded by concrete blocks. Therefore we do not have a plein-air feeling when we enter the Marble Hall of the Unions’ House of Culture Miercurea Ciuc, which is transformed into an art workshop for a short time. We can witness the contemplations and thoughts of the artists in the process of ripening, then their projection in their work. The topic of the Workshop is not defined, it is totally based on the freedom of the creation. The place, the inspiration coming from this unusual environment as well as the reflections formed during the camp provide a unique work atmosphere.

At the same time, the creation is an open process, people who are interested can get an insight into the process of creation and talk to the artists during it.

The work of the temporary artist community is concentrated in an exhibition at the end of the Camp.

In the previous editions of the FREE Camp we had 97 participant artists from 16 country (Austria, the USA, Canada, Sweden, Great Britain, Slovakia, Portugal, Italy, Hungary, Romania, Japan, Taiwan, India, Germany, Serbia, Czech Republic).

Harghita Salon

The Harghita Salon is one of the most important events in the field of plastic arts of this region organized by the Cultural Center of Harghita County, Harghita County Council and the Cultura Nostra Association. Participants in this exhibition are artists with origines from Harghita county, with a degree in plastic arts or students, members of a recognised art association in Romania or abroad. Each edition of the Salon has a defined topic and two of the participant artists receive a professional prize.
The exhibition realized is presented in at least three locations: Miercurea Ciuc, Odorheiu Secuiesc and Lăzarea.

Exhibitions

Throughout the year we organize several art exhibitions related to our programs such as FREE Camp, FREE Camp – Restrospective, Harghita Salon. Besides these events, we are also local partners in some itinerant exhibitions, such as the Temeiuri – National Art Salon.

FREE Camp – Restrospective
Since its establishment in 2005, we have gained a large collection of art from the works of the artists participating in the FREE Camp.
From this archive we have organized several retrospective exhibitions in Miercurea Ciuc, Târgu Mureș, Debrecen. In 2019, a similar exhibition will be organized in Sfântu Gheorghe.
